Vi ska vara heliga som Gud är helig.

Jag läser just nu Moseböckerna, nr 3 närmare bestämt och psaltaren. Moseböckerna har långa bitar som jag anser jobbiga, men de behövs, för det är här vi verkligen ser den stränga/ heliga sidan av Gud.

I nya testamentet så är det kärleken som är i fokus. Det betyder ju inte att Gud inte var kärleksfull i gamla testamentet, eller att Gud nu i det nya testamentet inte är strikt/ helig.

Att läsa om när Arons söner offrade fel eld åt Herren och Han dödade dem ögonblickligen, är ingen enkel läsning. Vi kan med våra mänskliga begränsade sinnen tycka att Gud är orättvis, när vi läser sånt. Men då glömmer vi bort hur ”helig” Gud faktiskt är, eller så förstår vi inte vad ordet ”helig” faktiskt innebär.

3 Mos 10:10-11 Ni ska skilja mellan heligt och oheligt, mellan orent och rent; och ni ska lära Israels barn alla de stadgar som HERREN har kungjort för dem genom Mose.»

Det här temat återkommer i nya testamentet på flera ställen. Petrus tar upp det, även Paulus. De förstod ordet helig, de visste hur helig Gud faktiskt var. Gör vi det?

Det är ju skrivet: »I skolen vara heliga, ty jag är helig.» 1 Pet 1:16

Gån icke i ok tillsammans med dem som icke tro; det bleve omaka par. Vad har väl rättfärdighet att skaffa med orättfärdighet, eller vilken gemenskap har ljus med mörker? Huru förlika sig Kristus och Beliar, eller vad delaktighet har den som tror med den som icke tror? Eller huru låter ett Guds tempel förena sig med avgudar? Vi äro ju ett den levande Gudens tempel, ty Gud har sagt: »Jag skall bo i dem och vandra ibland dem; jag skall vara deras Gud, och de skola vara mitt folk.» Alltså: »Gån ut ifrån dem och skiljen eder ifrån dem, säger Herren; kommen icke vid det orent är. Då skall jag taga emot eder och vara en Fader för eder; och I skolen vara mina söner och döttrar, säger Herren, den Allsmäktige.» 2 Kor 6:14-18

När vi läser verserna ovanför så tänker vi förmodligen på att skilja oss från världen, och det är ju vad sammanhanget också talar om. Men går vi på det Gud säger i 3 Mosebok, så ser vi att detta var Israels barn, Guds förbundsfolk, som inte skulle vara som folken runt omkring. Mer än så faktiskt, Arons söner, de tillhörde som Aron och Mose själva Levi stam, de var kallade att vara präster, men förstod inte vad verklig helighet var.

Skilja mellan heligt och inte heligt, mellan rent och orent det är viktigt för Gud och borde vara det för oss också. Det gäller inte endast vilka vi umgås med, utan också allting i vår tro. Till viss del måste vi umgås med de som inte är som vi och som faller under icke heliga/ orena, men när vi umgås med dessa ska vi nog vara mera som ljus i det mörka. Så att vi faktiskt inte dras med i deras orenhet. Detta är inte enkelt.

Tänker vi verkligen på allt vi säger ihop med andra, i synnerhet då de som inte är troende? Eller dras vi med i att snacka skit, är vi till och med de som börjar skitsnacket? Frågor som vi behöver ställa oss, anser jag.

Men tungan kan ingen människa tämja; ett oroligt och ont ting är den, och full av dödande gift. Med den välsigna vi Herren och Fadern, och med den förbanna vi människorna, som äro skapade till att vara Gud lika. Ja, från en och samma mun utgå välsignelse och förbannelse. Så bör det icke vara, mina bröder. Icke giver väl en källa från en och samma åder både sött och bittert vatten? Mina bröder, icke kan väl ett fikonträd bära oliver eller ett vinträd fikon? Lika litet kan en salt källa giva sött vatten. Jak 3:8-12

Från samma mun välsignar vi Herren för att i nästa stund tala skit om någon eller rent av svära. Är det verkligen att vara så heliga som Gud själv är helig? Låter jag tjatig om helighet, och våra munnar i synnerhet? Ja, det finns en risk, men det ligger på mig och har gjort ett tag nu.

Vem ska vi bli lika, när vi blivit frälsta? Hur hamnar vi där, där vi i sanning verkligen återspeglar Jesus? För många av oss har lätt att falla när det gäller våra tungors band. Vi är i total avsaknad av att tygla tungan många gånger, om inte jämt. Och hur går det ihop med att snacka skit eller svära ena stunden och i nästa be och lovprisa Herren?

I tillbedjen vad I icke kännen, vi tillbedja vad vi känna -- ty frälsningen kommer från judarna - men den tid skall komma, ja, den är redan inne, då sanna tillbedjare skola tillbedja Fadern i ande och sanning; ty sådana tillbedjare vill Fadern hava. Gud är ande, och de som tillbedja måste tillbedja i ande och sanning.» Joh 4:22-24

Hur tillber vi i ande och sanning, utan helighet, utan att avskilja oss från det som hör till världen? Är det ens möjligt? Givetvis är det möjligt för Gud, ingenting är ju helt omöjligt för honom. Men personligen tror jag, precis som med vår vilja och våra hjärtans begärelser, att vi behöver tänka på hur vi lever, och hur vi heliga vi är både i hur vi beter oss, och vem vi umgås med. Det gäller allt vad vi släpper in och att ha koll på om vi släpper ut samma skräp, som vi släppte in, i de fall det var skräp.

Jag tror inte jag är ensam om att behöva verkligen tänka över hela mitt kristna liv. För vi lever i en tid av så mycket påverkan utifrån, från både kultur och socialt umgänge. Och detta påverkar oss, vare sig vi vill det eller ej.

Tänker på en predikant, kommer inte ihåg vem nu, som inte ens läste morgontidningen, för han ville inte ta in någonting av yttre påverkan. Vi har kommit långt ifrån detta i vår tid, men vi har också mycket mer saker som kan påverka oss, än de hade för över 100 år sedan.

Rom 12:1-2 Så förmanar jag nu eder, mina bröder, vid Guds barmhärtighet, att frambära edra kroppar till ett levande, heligt och Gud välbehagligt offer -- eder andliga tempeltjänst. Och skicken eder icke efter denna tidsålders väsende, utan förvandlen eder genom edert sinnes förnyelse, så att I kunnen pröva vad som är Guds vilja, vad som är gott och välbehagligt och fullkomligt.

Förnya våra sinnen, hur då? Jag är kanske extremt slö och läser bibeln extremt lite, mot alla andra. Men skulle jag sätta tiden som jag spenderar i ordet och bön, jämfört med sociala media, tv och annat världsligt, då är det ingen tvekan från min sida på vad som får mest tid. Att hålla sig helig som Gud är helig, med all den yttre påverkan, ja det är inte enkelt.

Hebr 12:14 Faren efter frid med alla och efter helgelse; ty utan helgelse får ingen se Herren.

Utan helgelse får ingen se Herren! Vad innebär det i själva verket för oss som lever så här sent i tiden? Jesus själv ställde frågan i Luk 18:8; Kommer jag finna tro när jag kommer tillbaka? Om Han behövde ställa frågan om tro; hur mycket mer torde det då inte gälla helgelse?

Psalmisten som skrivit psalm 119 ger svar på hur vi ska leva våra liv. Håll allt vad Gud befallt. Hur gör vi det? Vi har Guds ord och hans bud för alltid inför vår ögon. Söker efter Herren hela tiden. Våra läppar talar ut dina lagar och vi lever efter dem. Vi har vår lust i guds stadgar och glömmer inte bort Guds heliga skrift.

Ps 119:4-16 Du har givit befallningar, för att de skola hållas med all flit. O att mina vägar vore rätta, så att jag hölle dina stadgar! Då skulle jag icke komma på skam, när jag skådade på alla dina bud. Jag vill tacka dig av uppriktigt hjärta, när jag får lära din rättfärdighets rätter. Dina stadgar vill jag hålla; övergiv mig icke så helt och hållet. Huru skall en yngling bevara sin väg obesmittad? När han håller sig efter ditt ord. Jag söker dig av allt mitt hjärta; låt mig icke fara vilse från dina bud. Jag gömmer ditt tal i mitt hjärta, för att jag icke skall synda mot dig. Lovad vare du, HERRE! Lär mig dina stadgar. Med mina läppar förtäljer jag alla din muns rätter. Jag fröjdar mig över dina vittnesbörds väg såsom över alla skatter. Jag vill begrunda dina befallningar och skåda på dina stigar. Jag har min lust i dina stadgar, jag förgäter icke ditt ord.

Guds ord är mina fötters lykta, ett ljus på min stig säger psalmisten i Psalm 119:105. Hur rätt är det inte, men också av yttersta vikt i den tid vi lever i.

Vi behöver hela tiden ha vår blick på det gudomliga, inte det världsliga. Jag menar inte att vi inte får roa oss med annat, se på filmer, läsa böcker et.c. et.c., men vi borde ha en balans som kanske är lika mycket tid på, eller aningens mer på Gud, än den värld vi lever i. Vi är trots allt ett folk på vandring mot vårt rätta hem, det som är ställt i ordning för oss i himlen.

We are to be holy as God is holy.

I am currently reading the books of Moses, No. 3 to be precise, and the psalmist. The books of Moses have long pieces that I find exhausting, but they are needed, because this is where we really see the strict / holy side of God.

The New Testament focuses on the love of God. This does not mean that God was not loving in the Old Testament, or that God now in the New Testament is not strict / holy.

Reading about when Aaron's sons offered the wrong fire to the Lord and He killed them instantly is not an easy read. With our human limited minds, we can think that God is unjust when we read that. But then we forget how "holy" God actually is, or we do not understand what the word "holy" actually means.

3 Mos 10:10-11 You are to distinguish between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean, and you are to teach the people of Israel all the statutes that the Lord has spoken to them by Moses.”

This theme reappears in the New Testament in several places. Peter addresses it, as do Paul. They understood the word holy, they knew how holy God actually was. Do we really understand that?

Det är ju skrivet: »You shall be holy, for I am holy. » 1 Pet 1:16

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,and I will be their God,and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Kor 6:14-18

When we read the verses above, we are probably thinking of separating ourselves from the world, and that is what the context is also talking about. But if we look at what God says in Leviticus 3, we see that these were the children of Israel, God´s covenant people, who were to be a separete people, not like the nations around them. More than that actually, the sons of Aaron belonged to Levi tribe, just like Aaron and Moses themselves, they were called to be priests, but did not understand what true holiness was.

Distinguish between holy and unholy, between pure and impure it is important to God and should be to us as well. This applies not only to those we associate with, but also to everything in our faith. To some extent we must associate with those who are not like us and who in fact are non-saints / unclean, but when we associate with these we should probably be more like light in the dark. So that we are not actually drawn into their impurity. This is not easy.

Do we really think about everything we say together with others, especially those who are not believers? Or are we involved in slanderous talk, are we even the ones starting the slander? Questions that, I think, we truly need to ask ourselves.

As I´ve gotten older this guaring of ones tounge as grown more and more imprortent to me.

No human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water. Jak 3:8-12

From the same mouth we bless the Lord to in the next moment slander someone or even swear. Is it really to be as holy as God himself is holy? Do I sound annoying about holiness, and our mouths in particular? Yes, there is a risk, but tis lays heavy on me and has done so for a while now.

Who shall we be like, when we are saved? How do we end up there, where we truly reflect Jesus? For so many of us it´s really easy to fall ecspecially when it comes to the bands of our tongues. We are in total absence of restraining the tongue many times, if not all the time. And how does that go together with slandering someone or swearing one moment and in the next praying and praising the Lord?

You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” Joh 4:22-24

How do we worship in spirit and truth, without holiness, without separating ourselves from that which belongs to the world? Is it even possible? Of course it is possible for God, nothing is completely impossible for him. But personally, I believe, just as with our will and the desires of our hearts, that we need to think about how we live, and how holy we are both in how we behave, and who we associate with. This applies to everything we let in and to keep track of whether we put out the same rubbish that we let in, in cases where it was rubbish.

I don´t think I am alone in really having to think about my whole Christian life. Because we live in a time of so much influences from the outside, both cultureally as well as social interaction. And this affects us, whether we like it or not.

Thinking of a preacher, do not remember who now, who did not even read the morning paper, because he did not want to take in anything of external influence. We have come a long way from this in our time, add on that we also have much more things that can affect us than they had over 100 years ago.

Rom 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Renew our senses, how? I may be extremely lazy in reading the Bible and redaing it extremely little compared to everyone else. But if I were to put the time I spend in word and prayer, compared to social media, television and other worldly things, then there is no doubt, on my part, as to what gets the most time. To remain holy as God is holy, with all the external influence, no, that´s not easy.

Hebr 12:14 Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

Without sanctification no one can see the Lord! What does it really mean for us who live this late in time? Jesus himself asked the question in Luke 18:8; Will I find faith when I return? If He needed to ask the question of faith; how much more should it not be then, about sanctification?

The psalmist who wrote Psalm 119 provides answers to how we should live our lives. Keep all that God has commanded. How do we do that? We have the word of God and his commandments before our eyes forever. Searching for the Lord all the time. Our lips speak your laws and we live by them. We have our desires in God's statutes and do not forget God's holy scripture.

Ps 119:4-16 You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me! How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes! With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth. In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.

The word of God is the lamp of my feet, a light on my path, says the psalmist in Psalm 119:105. How right isn´t it, but also of utmost importance in the time we live in.

We need to constantly keep our eyes on the divine, not the worldly. I don´t mean we shouldn´t have fun with other things, watch movies, read books, etc. et.c., but we should have a balance that is perhaps as much time on, or slightly more on God, than the world we live in. After all, we are a people on the move towards our right home, that which is preserved for us in heaven.
