We are to be holy as God is holy.

I am currently reading the books of Moses, No. 3 to be precise, and the psalmist. The books of Moses have long pieces that I find exhausting, but they are needed, because this is where we really see the strict / holy side of God.

The New Testament focuses on the love of God. This does not mean that God was not loving in the Old Testament, or that God now in the New Testament is not strict / holy.

Reading about when Aaron's sons offered the wrong fire to the Lord and He killed them instantly is not an easy read. With our human limited minds, we can think that God is unjust when we read that. But then we forget how "holy" God actually is, or we do not understand what the word "holy" actually means.

3 Mos 10:10-11 You are to distinguish between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean, and you are to teach the people of Israel all the statutes that the Lord has spoken to them by Moses.”

Det här temat återkommer i nya testamentet på flera ställen. Petrus tar upp det, även Paulus. De förstod ordet helig, de visste hur helig Gud faktiskt var. Gör vi det?

This theme reappears in the New Testament in several places. Peter addresses it, as do Paul. They understood the word holy, they knew how holy God actually was. Do we really understand that?

Det är ju skrivet: »You shall be holy, for I am holy. » 1 Pet 1:16

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them,and I will be their God,and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Kor 6:14-18

When we read the verses above, we are probably thinking of separating ourselves from the world, and that is what the context is also talking about. But if we look at what God says in Leviticus 3, we see that these were the children of Israel, God´s covenant people, who were to be a separete people, not like the nations around them. More than that actually, the sons of Aaron belonged to Levi tribe, just like Aaron and Moses themselves, they were called to be priests, but did not understand what true holiness was.

Distinguish between holy and unholy, between pure and impure it is important to God and should be to us as well. This applies not only to those we associate with, but also to everything in our faith. To some extent we must associate with those who are not like us and who in fact are non-saints / unclean, but when we associate with these we should probably be more like light in the dark. So that we are not actually drawn into their impurity. This is not easy.

Do we really think about everything we say together with others, especially those who are not believers? Or are we involved in slanderous talk, are we even the ones starting the slander? Questions that, I think, we truly need to ask ourselves.

As I´ve gotten older this guaring of ones tounge as grown more and more imprortent to me.

No human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water. Jak 3:8-12

From the same mouth we bless the Lord to in the next moment slander someone or even swear. Is it really to be as holy as God himself is holy? Do I sound annoying about holiness, and our mouths in particular? Yes, there is a risk, but tis lays heavy on me and has done so for a while now.

Who shall we be like, when we are saved? How do we end up there, where we truly reflect Jesus? For so many of us it´s really easy to fall ecspecially when it comes to the bands of our tongues. We are in total absence of restraining the tongue many times, if not all the time. And how does that go together with slandering someone or swearing one moment and in the next praying and praising the Lord?

You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” Joh 4:22-24

How do we worship in spirit and truth, without holiness, without separating ourselves from that which belongs to the world? Is it even possible? Of course it is possible for God, nothing is completely impossible for him. But personally, I believe, just as with our will and the desires of our hearts, that we need to think about how we live, and how holy we are both in how we behave, and who we associate with. This applies to everything we let in and to keep track of whether we put out the same rubbish that we let in, in cases where it was rubbish.

I don´t think I am alone in really having to think about my whole Christian life. Because we live in a time of so much influences from the outside, both cultureally as well as social interaction. And this affects us, whether we like it or not.

Thinking of a preacher, do not remember who now, who did not even read the morning paper, because he did not want to take in anything of external influence. We have come a long way from this in our time, add on that we also have much more things that can affect us than they had over 100 years ago.

Rom 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Renew our senses, how? I may be extremely lazy in reading the Bible and redaing it extremely little compared to everyone else. But if I were to put the time I spend in word and prayer, compared to social media, television and other worldly things, then there is no doubt, on my part, as to what gets the most time. To remain holy as God is holy, with all the external influence, no, that´s not easy.

Hebr 12:14 Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

Without sanctification no one can see the Lord! What does it really mean for us who live this late in time? Jesus himself asked the question in Luke 18:8; Will I find faith when I return? If He needed to ask the question of faith; how much more should it not be then, about sanctification?

The psalmist who wrote Psalm 119 provides answers to how we should live our lives. Keep all that God has commanded. How do we do that? We have the word of God and his commandments before our eyes forever. Searching for the Lord all the time. Our lips speak your laws and we live by them. We have our desires in God's statutes and do not forget God's holy scripture.

Ps 119:4-16 You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me! How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes! With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth. In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.

The word of God is the lamp of my feet, a light on my path, says the psalmist in Psalm 119:105. How right isn´t it, but also of utmost importance in the time we live in.

We need to constantly keep our eyes on the divine, not the worldly. I don´t mean we shouldn´t have fun with other things, watch movies, read books, etc. et.c., but we should have a balance that is perhaps as much time on, or slightly more on God, than the world we live in. After all, we are a people on the move towards our right home, that which is preserved for us in heaven.

Our free will, a good or bad thing?

God gave man his own free will when he planted the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden. Sure, that means we do not have to be God's puppets. Instead, we have our own free will, Hooray! I'm being sarcastic, in case you readers don´t understand that. A free will that has always followed our own evil hearts since the garden of Eden.

What a responsibility we humans have taken on ourselves. Well, we, you and, I who live in this generation have not really chosen this, but still. We would all have done the same thing as Adam and Eve. For the truth is that we, like them, are all governed by our hearts and the desires that they have.

I would probably argue that our own free will isn´t a blessing, rather the contrary, a curse. Yet God chose to give us free will. He who is from the beginning and who saw the end from the beginning, he chose this. You might wonder what he was really thinking. Give us humans a free will, why? I do not know the answer to why, in all honestly it completely amazes me.

No matter how much God wants us to choose him, history tells us that most people don´t choose God. Free will, we should want to have contact with God, not be forced to do so. But how much has this free will cost God in the form of sorrows? He created and said that everything was good, even man. Man fell and everything became evil. All the good that he created was completely replaced.

The desires of our evil hearts together with our free will, talk about disaster. Then add the influence that Satan has had on us humans, not to mention all the different temptations of the world that we have today. If it was hard to be a Christian before the time we live in, it sure isn´t easier now.

The desires of our hearts make us susceptible to temptations, our free will makes us willing to follow the desires of our evil hearts. Nice combo! Two evil things that both need to be brought under the obedience of God if we are to be Christians. Really not the easiest thing, at least not for us humans.

It´s not impossible for God, but it´s a completely different story for us. Our evil hearts and our free will are in the opposite relationship to God, there is no question about that. So in order to overcome the problem, we need to take control of them and bring them in under the obedience of God. It is quite clear that we alone, cannot make both our own free will and our evil hearts obey us, on our own.

Fortunately, we have Jesus on our side, help from the Holy Spirit as well as the help from the holy scriptures at our disposal. So we are not alone in this war against the flesh. God has promised us help at the right time and we can trust in that, completely.

This is one part of the spiritual warfare that the Bible speaks of. A war in which we as Christians, of our own free will, have chosen to love God and follow him, in stark contrast to the desires of our evil hearts desire. For our evil hearts have not voluntarily chosen to follow God, they rather want what they want.

Desire for different things is born in the heart. The thing that Paul spoke about; The bad things I don´t want to do, I do and the good I want to do, I don´t do. The words here illuminate, among other things, the problem with the desires of our evil hearts, which our will so eagerly desires to follow.

Often these, our desires, make us give in to temptation, contrary to what we really want. But we have a faithful Father, who forgives us when we come to him and sincerely apologizes.

Parts of the prayer Our Father, comes in to play ere as well; Do not lead us into temptation and forgive us our sins. Our Father a prayer that we really should pray daily, if we don´t do it already. Not out of routine, but with sincere hearts, where we really think about what we are praying.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Matt 6:9-13

So what should we do then? Continue to let our heart's desires seduce us? In the letter to the Romans chapter 6, Paul goes on to descibe that we are servant to sin, or slave to sin which is how ESV and the FolkBible translate it.

1-9 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.

10-16 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

17-23 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We put our will and desires in under the obedience of Christ and the fruit is that we grow in our spiritual maturity, and become who we are meant to be.

So in a way we have our free will, which is put into obedience, which means that our will is no longer free. However our spiritual man shall be put to rule over the will, bring it in under the dominion of Jesus. Some Christians take this for granted, other Christians may not even be aware of this. For there are many who let the desires of their hearts deceive their will into following these desires.

It is incredibly important that we overcome the sin that wants to bind us so hard in shackles and that we as saved, can learn this from the beginning.

When we read, among other things about how, Paul in the letters he wrote, so carefully explained to those he wrote to, how they should live, what they should do and were not allowed to do. He really made sure that everyone he taught, or wrote to, knew everything before he considered them adults enough to live their own Christian lives, and to be the parent of someone else.

In what he wrote and left behind for us, we can see the importance of being a mature Christian parent, and not abandon the one who recently found Jesus, until the person has really learned everything. Sometimes this is rushed, and it has been like that for a long time. Tis is something we need to get better at.

Vår fria vilja; bra eller dåligt?

Gud gav människan en egen fri vilja när han planterade kunskapens träd på gott och ont i Edens lustgård. Visst, det betyder att vi inte behöver vara Guds marionetter. I stället har vi vår egen fria vilja, Hurra! Jag är sarkastisk, ifall du som läser inte förstår det. En fri vilja som hela tiden sedan lustgården har följt våra egna ondskefulla hjärtan.

Vilket ansvar som vi människor har tagit på oss själva. Tja just vi, du och jag som lever i den här generationen har ju inte valt detta, men ändå. Vi skulle alla ha gjort samma sak som Adam och Eva. För sanningen är ju den att vi som dem, alla, styrs av våra hjärtan och de begär som dessa har.

Jag skulle nog hävda att vår egen fria vilja inte är en välsignelse, snarare tvärt om, en förbannelse. Ändå valde Gud att ge oss en fri vilja. Han som är från begynnelsen och som såg slutet från början, han valde detta. Man kan ju undra vad han tänkte på egentligen. Ge oss människor en fri vilja, varför? Jag vet inte svaret på varför, det gör mig ärligt talat helt förbluffad.

Hur mycket Gud än vill att vi ska välja honom, så berättar historien oss att de allra flesta inte väljer Gud. Fri vilja, vi ska vilja ha kontakt med Gud, inte vara tvingade till det. Men hur mycket har denna fria vilja kostat Gud i form av sorger. Han skapade och sa att allting var gott, även människan. Människan föll och allting blev ont. Allt det goda som han skapat byttes ut helt och hållet.

Våra onda hjärtans begär ihop med vår fria vilja, snacka om katastrof. Lägg sedan till den påverkan som Satan haft på oss människor, för att inte tala om alla världens olika frestelser som vi har inpå oss idag. Var det jobbigt att vara kristen innan den tid som vi lever i, så är det inte lättare nu.

Våra hjärtans begär gör oss mottagliga för frestelser, vår fria vilja gör att vi gärna följer efter våra onda hjärtans begär. Snygg kombo! Två onda ting som båda behöver föras in under Guds lydnad om vi ska kunna vara kristna. Ingen lätt sak minsann, åtminstone inte för oss människor.

För Gud är det inte omöjligt, men för oss är det en annan historia. Våra onda hjärtan och vår fria vilja står i motsatt förhållande till Gud, det är inte tal om annat. Så för att få bukt med problemet, behöver vi ta kontroll över dessa och få in dem under Guds lydnad. Det är helt klart att vi inte ensamma kan få både vår egen fria vilja och våra onda hjärtan att lyda oss, på egen hand.

Som tur är så har vi Jesus på vår sida, hjälp från den Helige Ande och skriften som hjälper oss. Så vi står inte ensamma i detta krig mot köttet. Gud har lovat oss hjälp i rätt tid och det kan vi lita helt på.

Detta är en del av den andliga krigföring som bibeln talar om. Ett krig, där vi som kristna, av fri vilja valt att älska Gud och följa honom, i kontrast mot vad våra onda hjärtans begär vill. För våra onda hjärtan har inte av fri vilja valt att följa Gud, de vill snarare ha det som de vill ha.

Begär till olika saker föds i hjärtat. Orden som Paulus sa; det onda som jag inte vill göra, det gör jag och det goda som jag vill göra, det gör jag inte. Orden här lyser bland annat upp problemet med våra onda hjärtans begär, som vår vilja så gärna vill följa efter.

Ofta får dessa våra begär oss att ge efter för frestelser, tvärs emot vad vi egentligen vill. Men vi har en trofast Fader, som förlåter oss när vi kommer till honom och uppriktigt ber om förlåt.

Här kommer även delar av bönen Fader vår in; Led oss inte i frestelse och Förlåt oss våra synder. Fader vår en bön som vi verkligen skulle behöva be dagligen om vi inte gör det. Inta av slentrian, utan med uppriktiga hjärtan, där vi verkligen tänker på exakt vad det är vi ber.

Fader vår, som är i himmelen! Helgat varde ditt namn; tillkomme ditt rike; ske din vilja, såsom i himmelen, så ock på jorden; vårt dagliga bröd giv oss i dag; och förlåt oss våra skulder, såsom ock vi förlåta dem oss skyldiga äro; och inled oss icke i frestelse, utan fräls oss ifrån ondo.' Ty riket är ditt och makten och härligheten i evighet. Amen Matt 6:9-13

Så vad ska vi då göra? Fortsätta att låta vårt hjärtas begär få förföra oss? Paulus går i brevet till Romarna kapitel 6 in på att vara syndens, tjänare eller slavar som ESV och Folkbibeln översätter det till.

1-6 Vad skola vi då säga? Skola vi förbliva i synden, för att nåden skall bliva så mycket större? Bort det! Vi som hava dött från synden, huru skulle vi ännu kunna leva i den? Veten I då icke att vi alla som hava blivit döpta till Kristus Jesus, vi hava blivit döpta till hans död? Och vi hava så, genom detta dop till döden, blivit begravna med honom, för att, såsom Kristus uppväcktes från de döda genom Faderns härlighet, också vi skola vandra i ett nytt väsende, i liv.

Ty om vi hava vuxit samman med honom genom en lika död, så skola vi ock vara sammanvuxna med honom genom en lika uppståndelse. Vi veta ju detta, att vår gamla människa har blivit korsfäst med honom, för att syndakroppen skall göras om intet, så att vi icke mer tjäna synden.

Ty den som är död, han är friad ifrån synden. Hava vi nu dött med Kristus, så tro vi att vi ock skola leva med honom, eftersom vi veta att Kristus, sedan han har uppstått från de döda, icke mer dör; döden råder icke mer över honom.

10- 16 Ty hans död var en död från synden en gång för alla, men hans liv är ett liv för Gud. Så mån ock I hålla före att I ären döda från synden och leven för Gud, i Kristus Jesus.

Låten därför icke synden hava väldet i edra dödliga kroppar, så att I lyden deras begärelser. Och ställen icke edra lemmar i syndens tjänst, att vara orättfärdighetsvapen, utan ställen eder själva i Guds tjänst, såsom de där från döden hava kommit till livet, och edra lemmar i Guds tjänst, att vara rättfärdighetsvapen.

Ty synden skall icke råda över eder, eftersom I icke stån under lagen, utan under nåden. Huru är det alltså? Skola vi synda, eftersom vi icke stå under lagen, utan under nåden? Bort det! I veten ju, att när I ställen eder i någons tjänst för att lyda honom, så ären I tjänare under denne, som I sålunda lyden, vare sig det är under synden, vilket leder till död, eller under lydnaden, vilket leder till rättfärdighet.

17-23 Men Gud vare tack för att den tid är förbi, då I voren syndens tjänare, och för att I haven blivit av hjärtat lydiga, så att I följen den lära som har givits eder till mönsterbild, och för att I, när I nu haven gjorts fria ifrån synden, haven blivit tjänare under rättfärdigheten - om jag nu får tala på människosätt, för eder köttsliga svaghets skull. Ja, likasom I förr ställden edra lemmar i orenhetens och orättfärdighetens tjänst, till orättfärdighet, så mån I nu ställa edra lemmar i rättfärdighetens tjänst, till helgelse.

Medan I voren syndens tjänare, voren I ju fria ifrån rättfärdighetens tjänst; men vilken frukt skördaden I då därav? Jo, det som I nu blygens för; änden på sådant är ju döden. Men nu, då I haven gjorts fria ifrån synden och blivit Guds tjänare, nu skörden I frukten av detta: I varden helgade; och änden bliver att I undfån evigt liv. Ty den lön som synden giver är döden, men den gåva som Gud av nåd giver är evigt liv, i Kristus Jesus, vår Herre.

Vi lägger in vår vilja och våra begär under Kristi lydnad och frukten blir att vi växer till i vår andliga mognad, och blir de som vi är menade att vara.

Så på sätt och vis har vi vår fria vilja, som läggs in under lydnad, vilket betyder att vår vilja inte är fri längre. Utan vår andliga människa ska styra över viljan, få in den under Jesu herravälde. En självklarhet anser en del kristna, andra kristna kanske inte ens är medvetna om detta. För det finns många som låter sina hjärtans begärelser få lura sin vilja in i att följa dessa begär.

Det är otroligt viktigt att vi får bukt med den synd som så hårt vill få oss bundna i bojor och att vi som frälsta redan från början får lära oss detta.

När vi läser om hur bland annat Paulus i breven han skrev, så noga förklarade för dem han skrev till, hur de skulle leva, vad de skulle göra och inte fick göra. Han såg verkligen till att alla som han undervisade eller skrev till, visste allting innan han ansåg dem vuxna nog att klara sina egna kristna liv, och att vara förälder till någon annan.

Vi kan i det han skrev och lämnade efter sig till oss, se vikten av att vara en mogen kristen förälder, och inte överge den som nyligen funnit Jesus, innan personen verkligen har fått lära sig allting. Ibland jäktas detta på, och så har det varit i långa tider. Något vi måste bi bättre på.

Vad hjärtat är fullt av talar munnen. / What the heart is full of, the mouth speaketh.

Som vanligt är för mig så funderar och tankarna vandrar runt. I förrgår på eftermiddagen så vandrade de iväg på en resa av hur vi behandlar andra, eller bemöter de som behandlar oss illa.

Att bli illa behandlad handlar inte enbart om fysisk skada, utan om en inre, som kan göra lika ont som en yttre, där ingen annan en personen själv ser såren och ärren efter såren.

Givetvis förde det tankarna över på vad bibeln säger om detta, det går ju liksom av bara farten. Vad har Gud att säga om hur vi bemöter andra eller själva blir bemötta?

För vart fåfängt ord som människan talar ska hon/ han få stå till svars inför på domens dag. Allvarliga ord det; Vartenda fåfängt ord.

En god människa bär ur sitt goda förråd fram vad gott är, och en ond människa bär ur sitt onda förråd fram vad ont är. Men jag säger eder, att för vart fåfängligt ord som människorna tala skola de göra räkenskap på domens dag. Ty efter dina ord skall du dömas rättfärdig, och efter dina ord skall du dömas skyldig. Matt 12:35-37

Hur många av våra ord säger vi i fåfänga? Vad betyder det ens att tala fåfängt? Låt oss gå till synonymerna för att få en överblick; självbelåtet, inbilskt, fruktlöst, meningslöst, lönlöst, bortkastat och egenkärt finns bland de ord som kommer upp, självupptaget, egenkärt, snobbigt, flärdfull, självbelåtet, resultatlöst är andra.

Men ett ord som vi säger som sårar någon annan, det är inte utan resultat, snarare tvärs om. Så om man lägger in alla dessa betydelser i ordet fåfängt, ja då tror jag det är lätt att säga att vi alla någon gång gjort oss skyldiga till att tala fåfängt.

Detta förde mina tankar vidare in på ordet; Sätt en vakt vid mina läppars dörr. Vi som kristna skulle verkligen behöva tänka på att ha en vakt vid våra läppar.

Herre, jag ropar till dig, skynda till mig! Lyssna till min röst när jag ropar till dig. Låt min bön vara rökelse inför dig, mina lyfta händer ett aftonoffer. Herre, sätt en vakt för min mun, bevaka mina läppars dörr. Låt inte mitt hjärta dras till det som är ont, till gudlösa gärningar i lag med förbrytare. Deras läckerheter vill jag inte äta. Om en rättfärdig slår mig är det av kärlek, straffar han mig är det som olja på huvudet. Mitt huvud ska inte avvisa det. Men jag fortsätter att be mot de ondas gärningar. Ps 141:1-5

Hur många gånger dras vi med i onda gärningar, via vår mun? Ett enda litet oförsiktigt ord, som slipper ut, eller ett oförsiktigt stönande, kan vara nog för att såra någon.

Det jag skrivit ovan är utifrån oss själva och vad vi talar, men om vi vänder på steken; Hur tar vi emot det som andra säger? Vänder vi andra kinden till eller svarar vi med samma mynt?

Jag tänker tillbaka på när jag var yngre, hur fungerade jag själv och för den delen hur fungerar jag nu? Det här gäller givetvis åt båda håll, ta emot eller ge. Jag kan inte säga att jag har ett definitivt svar att ge, inte ens från mitt eget perspektiv.

Märkligt vilka saker man börjar tänka på när man blitt lite äldre, kanske också lite förståndigare. Helt klart är att jag inte alltid tänkt på vad jag säger.

Kommer ihåg en gång i ungdomen, 19 år gammal, vårt första barn var fött. Ett äldre par från hemgruppen kom och gratulerade oss. Jag sa att jag var så glad över att jag var så ung när jag fick mitt första barn, jag hade inga som helst baktankar med det. Men det visade sig att de tog väldigt illa vid sig. De hade fått kämpa för att bli gravida, och fått en dotter när de var i 40 års åldern, dottern var sjuklig. Så de tog det som en pik mot att de borde inte haft ett barn. Jag visste ärligt talat inte ens om att de hade ett barn. Ett ord, inge illa menat, men sagt i oförstånd, som sårade.

Det är ju tyvärr så att vi inte riktigt vet om andra personers liv och därmed inte heller deras svaga punkter. Hur viktigt är det inte att ha en vakt vid våra läppars dörr, just därför?

Ordet har verkligen någonting att säga om alla tillfällen i livet. Här har vi ord för tillrättavisning, skrivna i förväg, och givna åt oss. Men hur ofta tänker vi på dem? Vakt vid vår mun, för från vår mun kommer ondska, eftersom det som kommer ut kommer från vårt obotligt sjuka och onda hjärta. Jesus sa, att det inte var det som gick in genom munnen som gjorde oss orena, utan det som gick ut genom den.

” Lyssna och förstå! Det som går in i munnen gör inte människan oren. Det är det som kommer ut ur munnen som gör henne oren." Matt 15:10-11

Allt som går in i munnen hamnar i magen och kommer ut på avträdet? Men det som går ut ur munnen kommer från hjärtat, och det gör människan oren. För från hjärtat kommer onda tankar, mord, äktenskapsbrott, sexuell omoral, stöld, falskt vittnesbörd och hädelser. Sådant gör människan oren. Matt 15.17-20

Bedrägligare än allt annat är hjärtat, det är obotligt sjukt. Vem kan förstå det? Jer 17:9

Det är väldigt viktigt att vi förstår allvaret i allt vad vi säger, eller hur vi tar emot det som sägs.

Ett litet ord av kärlek till de vi möter är bättre, och det gäller även när vi svarar på andras dumma kommentarer. Ack så svårt många gånger, men också så viktigt.

Man fångar fler flugor med honung, än med flugsmällan. Vad menar jag med detta? Jo, att vi som är kristna är satta som förebilder och representanter för Jesus. Så vi borde verkligen öva oss i att bete oss på rätt sätt. Hur ska en icke kristen kunna se att vi är annorlunda, om vi gör exakt samma sak som dem. Och varför skulle de vilja bli frälsta, om frälsningen inte ens förändrat oss själva?

Ju mer jag tänker på ordet vakt vid mina läppars dörr, desto mer inser jag hur påverkade av världen vi kristna faktiskt är. För jag är långt ifrån ensam om att inte tänka på vad som sägs hela tiden. Vi som kristna borde i allting tänka på vem vi representerar och vad.

Jag har genom lagen dött bort från lagen för att leva för Gud. Jag är korsfäst med Kristus, och nu lever inte längre jag, utan Kristus lever i mig. Och det liv jag nu lever i min kropp, det lever jag i tron på Guds Son som har älskat mig och utgett sig för mig. Gal 2:19-20

De som lever efter köttet tänker på det som hör till köttet, men de som lever efter Anden tänker på det som hör till Anden. Köttets sinne är död, men Andens sinne är liv och frid. Köttets sinne är fiendskap mot Gud. Det underordnar sig inte Guds lag och kan det inte heller. De som lever i köttet kan inte behaga Gud. Ni däremot lever inte i köttet utan i Anden, eftersom Guds Ande bor i er. Den som inte har Kristi Ande tillhör inte honom. Om Kristus bor i er är visserligen kroppen död på grund av synden, men Anden är liv på grund av rättfärdigheten. Och om Anden från honom som uppväckte Jesus från de döda bor i er, då ska han som uppväckte Kristus från de döda också göra era dödliga kroppar levande genom sin Ande som bor i er. Rom 8:5-11

Vi ska vara döda i oss själva och levande genom Jesus, med den Helige Ande boende i oss. Om vi i sanning är detta, då bedrövar vi den Helige Ande varenda gång som vi talar fåfängliga ord. Anden är ju liv, men vårt kött är död. Så när vi inte har vakt vid våra läppars dörr, då kommer död ut ur vår mun, inte liv, vilket borde vara det som kommer fram, från en kristen andefylld människa.

Detta får mig att tänk på broderade bonader som ofta hängde i hemmen förr, och då i synnerhet en, med texten, Små, små ord av kärlek sagda varje dag, sprida över hemmet solsken och behag. Så otroligt sant det är, och lika viktigt är det att denna attityd följer med oss ut i vardagslivet.

Även orden; tala är silver, men tiga är guld kommer upp i mig. Ibland är det ju bättre att säga ingenting än att öppna munnen och låta den spy ut sitt dödliga gift.

Kanske är det endast mig som själv som detta berör, men jag tvivlar på det. Jag tror att vi många gånger spyr galla genom våra läppar, utan att vara medvetna om det. Så lätt att snacka lite oskyldigt skit om någon, som man inte menar något illa med. Men även om personen inte är närvarande, så hr munnen ändå talat ut saker i fåfänglighet, som vi behöver stå till svars för en gång.

Undrar om de gamla troskämparna också drogs med detta. Förmodligen har det existerat i alla tider, vilket är varför bibeln tar upp det. Du och jag ska vara annorlunda än de i världen, men är vi verkligen det? Det är den stora frågan. Någonting att fundera på kanske, för fler än mig.

          What the heart is full of, the mouth speaketh.

As per usual for me, my thoughts wander around. The afternoon before yesterday, they took a journey of how we treat others, or treat those who treat us badly.

Being treated badly is not only about physical damage, but inwardly as well, which can hurt every bit as much as a physical assoult, the difference is noone exept the person him or herself can see the wound or the scars after the wounds.

These thoughts brought to mind what the Bible says, it´s no stopping it. What does God have to say about how we treat others or responding when being ill treated ourselves?

For every vain word that a person speaks, he/ she will be held accountable on the day of judgment. Serious words that; Every vain word.

The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matt 12:35-37

How many of our words are spoken in vain? What does it even mean to speak in vain? Let's go to the synonyms to get an overview; complacent, conceited, fruitless, meaningless, unprofitable, futile, impotent and self-indulgent are among the words that come up, self-absorbed, self-indulgent, snobby, flirtatious, self-satisfied, powerless are others.

But a word we say that hurts someone else, it is not without results, rather the opposite. So if you put all these meanings in the word vanity, well then I think it's easy to say that we have all at some point made ourselves guilty of speaking in vain.

This brought my thoughts further into the word; Put a guard at the door of my lips. We as Christians really need to think about having a guard at our lips.

O Lord, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice! Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with men who work iniquity, and let me not eat of their delicacies! Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness; let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head; let my head not refuse it. Yet my prayer is continually against their evil deeds. Ps 141:1-5

How many times are we drawn into evil deeds, through our mouths? A single careless word that escapes, or a careless moan, can be enough to hurt someone.

What I have written above is based on ourselves and what we speak, but if we turn the tables; How do we receive what others say? Do we turn the other cheek or do we respond in the same way?

I think back to when I was younger, what did I do myself and for that matter how do I function now? This of course applies in both directions, receive or give. I can not say that I have a definite answer to give, not even from my own perspective.

Strange the things you start to think about when you get a little older, maybe also a little more sensible. Clearly, I have not always thought about what I said.

Remember once in my youth, 19 years old, our first child newly born. An elderly couple from the home group came and congratulated us. I said I was so happy that I was so young when I had my first child, I had no ulterior motives at all. But it turned out however, that they took it very badly. They´ve had to struggle to get pregnant, and had a daughter when they were 40 + years old, that daughter was ill. So they took it as a pike that they should not have a child at all. I honestly I didn´t even know they had a child. A word, no ill-meaning intended, but said in ignorance, which hurt.

Unfortunately, we do not really know about other people's lives and thus not their weaknesses. How important isn´t it therefore to have a guard at the door of our lips?

The word really has something to say about every moment in life. Here we have words for rebuke, written in advance, and given to us. But how often do we think of them? Beware of our mouth, for out of our mouth comes evil, because words that comes out, comes out from our incurably sick and evil heart. Jesus said that it was not what went in through the mouth that made us unclean, but what came out through it.

It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” Matt 15:10-11

Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled? But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.” Matt 15.17-20

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? Jer 17:9

It is very important that we understand the seriousness of everything we say, or how we receive what is said to us.

A small word of love for those we meet is better, that also applies when we respond to the stupid comments others. So difficult many times, but also so important.

You catch more flies with honey than with a flyswatter. What do I mean by this? Well, that we who are Christians are set as role models and representatives of Jesus. So we really should practice behaving properly. How can a non-Christian see that we are different, if we do exactly the same thing as them. And why would they want to be saved, if salvation has not even changed us?

The more I think of the word, guard at the door of my lips, the more I realize how influenced by the world we Christians actually are. Because I am far from alone in not thinking about what is said all the time. We as Christians should think in everything about who we represent and what.

For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Gal 2:19-20

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. Rom 8:5-11

We are to be dead in ourselves and alive through Jesus, with the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us. If we truly are this, then we grieve the Holy Spirit every time we speak words in vain. The spirit is life, but our flesh is dead. So when we don´t have a guard at the door of our lips, then death comes out of our mouth, not life, which should be what comes out, from a Christian spirit-filled man/ woman.

This makes me think of embroidered bonnets that often hung in homes in the past, and then in particular one, with the text, Small, small words of love said every day, spread over the home sunshine and pleasure. How incredibly true that is, and just as important is the fact that this attitude accompanies us into everyday life.

Even the words; talk is silver, but silence is gold comes up in me. Sometimes it's better to say nothing than to open your mouth and let it spew out its deadly poison.

Maybe it's only me who get touched by this, but I doubt it. I think we often spew bile through our lips, without being aware of it. So easy to talk a little innocent shit about someone, who you do not mean anything bad by. But even if the person is not present, the mouth has still uttered things in vain, which we will be held accountable for once.

I wonder if the old faith fighters also struggled with this. It has probably existed in all ages, which is why the Bible addresses it. You and I should be different from those in the world, but are we really? That's the big question. Something to think about, maybe for more than me.
